neither nor is pleased to announce its debut exhibition featuring Annique Delphine’s latest series the witch in the woods. This will be Annique’s fist solo-show since reclaim the feminine, 2017. Her recent works continue to explore the artist’s relationship to her own body as it has been perceived at different stages of her life: Girl: fragile object, bisexual woman: sexual object, model: desirable object, mother: fertile object, perimenopausal woman: deteriorating object.

the witch in the woods is a series of semi-autobiographical photographs, sculptures and short videos loosely based on western fairy tales and their re-interpretation in Hollywood. Annique dissects how these cultural influences have informed her daily life. The series is an exploration of a hypothetical future self, where she embodies the character of a witch who has been outcast. The character simultaneously finds freedom in that consequential separation from society as much as she yearns to be perceived as a more popular version of herself, a younger self.

The works seduce the viewer with pastel colours and semi-erotic textures as they put to question how women have been represented through various photographic and artistic mediums as well as societal expectations linked to gender norms and how they shift as we age. Ultimately posing the question: can the artist break free from the internalised male gaze she was socialised with or does her work perpetuate the objectification it underlines? 

We will open out doors to the public before the project reaches its conclusion:

Our official exhibition opening will take place on the 23rd of November 2024, however you can visit us in the space while we set up the exhibition from the 19th of October 2024 onwards (find our opening times bellow), this is the day we will start installing. Our artist talk will take place on the 31st of October 2024, halfway through our install, to offer a unique insight to Annique’s artistic practice, her process and our collaboration with her.
