boob tiles (ae)
Our first collaboration features the works of Berlin-based artist Annique Delphine, who is best known for her surrealist, breasty, and at times disturbing iconography. Delphine’s works are autobiographical, as she explores her relationship with her own body as it has been perceived at different stages of her life: Girl: fragile object, bisexual woman: sexual object, model: desirable object, mother: fertile object, perimenopausal woman: deteriorating object.
Silicone- boob shaped stress balls are a re-occurring motif in her photographic and sculptural work, they appear to underline the trivial ways in which female bodies are objectified and the effects that has on the female experience. She addresses how female bodies are in turn a type of currency that is more or less valuable according to things like youth, sexuality, fertility, and agreeability. We thought of these recurring stress balls and what they represent within Delphine’s practice to be an appropriate foundation for our design.
Our tiles are a gentle reminder of the objectification of the female body and its effects on the daily feminine experience.
